Vac brake booster question

Postby slow_90firebird » Thu Feb 09, 2012 10:51 am

Quick question

I want to put a new power brake booster in my truck. It still works but leaks vacuum when you hold the pedal down. Makes driving in traffic hard.

My question was can I change just the booster without disconnecting the lines from the master? If I left them hooked up and just bent them a little to make room will it sneak out? I really don't wanna bleed it all again it was a nightmare last time...

If not, I could remove the master and avoid bleeding if I don't touch the 2 lines going to the master. I know the fluid stays in them if you never open the bleeders. But they still might stick up in the way...

Sure can! That's what I did, didn't have an issue ;)

Just the two nuts/studs on the master side, and it pulls right off. I let the master hang out while I got the four nuts on the inside up by the pedals. One or two of those can be a pain to get to, but with a swivel on a socket and a longer extension, they came right out. There is that clip that holds the bolt to the rod on the brake pedal too.

Jus did mine today for the second time, and it only takes about 30 to 60 minutes, worst part is getting the four nuts off inside that cab lol
like said in the earlier post, lines do not need to come off
