Traction Bars

Postby CaseyF » Sat Mar 19, 2011 9:59 pm

Does anybody have any pics of their traction bars, or any tips or tricks to building them? I plan on building a set my self.

yes two very crappy pics from an old post...

viewtopic.php?f=10&t=8724

i didnt get a good one of the rear, its just a set of tabs sticking down off the ubolt plate.

you can see the front crossmember I made, i welded the tabs on the top because the bars matched the driveshaft angle better. BUT, Id say the truck sits about 6inches higher than stock so your truck may be different

well the tubing I used first....before I bent them to banannas...was some rollbar tubing I had laying around, dont think they would have bent if I had not abused them like I did (pulled in the 8000lb class with a bit over 6500lbs)

I have now remade them with 1inch ID dom chromolly stuff I got from a power substation, but havt put them on yet because Ive got no need of them commuting to work everyday.

I like the stack too  its just the right size, just the right sound

It doesn't show up as a whole picture on my computer, just from the back of the door back.

Mine does the same thing, Casey. I just left click and "view image". It's a slight hassle, but I don't feel like fighting my computer to get it to display right.

casey where did you get your center caps or are they just regular old ones you get from anywhere. also when it comes to traction bars is there any angles or measurements that have to be a certain way or can i make the angles whatever i want them to be. my truck is lowered i think they pulled leafs out but idk. if that makes an difference. finally should i go ahead with traction bars or bite the bullet and rip everything out and bag it.

the best method is to try and match your bars to the same angle as your driveshaft (under load is best), keeping your pinion angle as straight as possible is best (I cranked my bars in when pulling to bring the pinon angle up)

some say the bars should be no longer than where the driveshaft meets the t-case

Sorry its been a while since Ive got on here. I got center caps and simulators on ebay a while back, and I wanted something different so I painted the wheels black. The center caps are like stock ones but my front ones arent cut out for 4x4.
