Lug nut options size and flat issues

91 D350 dual rear

A few questions and concerns is the lug nut size actually 1 1/8 th? I need to buy a socket and this is what it apears to measure as.

Torque of the lug nuts?

What do you guys do for flats? Mine is missing the tool kit. I have a bottle jack to lift it but what about a lug wrench? Do they make them in this size?

Any other tips or tricks?

So what I have found says 200ft/lbs for the torque specs but that seams really high?

Does anyone know where I might be able to find this information? Or to confirm this?

On the mitchell on demand
D350 wheel studs 5/8 by 18 torque is 325ftlbs. That's with the flanged nuts. Coned nuts are 200lbsft.

Buy a socket and pull handle or ratchet. Forget about the factory stuff.

325 ft lbs :shock: I have what I believe to be flanged nuts. That just seams really tight! and probably more then I am going to be able to do with a 1/2 breaker bar......

I use a 1/2 pull handle to loosen mack head bolts that torque down more than that :lol: buy a quality tool. You'll be amazed how much pressure you can put on a tool with your foot. ;)

I grew up on a 4way so I've done my share of that :lol:
If he Buys a good tool,he'll be happy. Another words don't buy J.A.Pan tools. :lol:

I have an old 1/2 proto breaker bar that will put up with some abuse but its very flexy at those loads. I will have to see what else I can find. Maybe a cheap 3/4 drive set with a pipe.

Breaker bar/pull handle,same thing. Some of use backwoods rednecks call it that :lol:

Proto is an excellent tool. Just cause the handle flexes doesn't mean its gonna break. Most any decent tool is going to allow some movement in the handle. I'll take a pic of the bar I use.

is an extention needed ? i broke a 1/2 in proto impact extention trying to break loose dually lugs
a couple weeks ago, ended up getting out the 3/4 in impact, but thats hard to do on the road side.

Matco bar that I have personaly seen flex at least 3" without breaking

Thanks guys! Sometimes knowing the names for a tool is the hard part. I may have to figure out an air source for the side of the road. .

I have seen the proto breaker bars flex more then 3" but I have also seen several broken snappy bars from tight things.

"Crack Bar", "Budd Wrench", "GOOD floor jack".
All good names to know on the side of the road.
The first 2 are factory engineered parts, which are time tested and proven well beyond any hand tools.
They are primitive-looking and even a bit cumbersome, but they are DESIGNED FOR THE WORK.

FWIW, if you're bending (not just "flexing") the factory "crack bar" removing the lug nuts, the nuts are TOO tight and were torqued that way.
Be prepared for a spun stud, due to the nut locking up on stretched threads.

Good advice, I will have everything off and torqued correctly here soon, the first time I have them off hopefully will not be on the side of the road but in my garage with parts stores not far away.
