Front Leaf U-Bolts and eye bolts

Postby hp383 » Mon Aug 06, 2012 4:49 pm

Hello guys. I am getting ready to have the front leafs swapped on my truck. I am rounding up parts, and due to a disability I cannot get under the truck to verify, and get bolt measurements.

I am needing to know the size, and quantity, of each u-bolt I will need. Also length/dia/thread count of the pass side inner studs.

I also plan on replacing the bushings in the frame, located at the rear upper/front leaf spring but cannot find this info anywhere.

Lastly I need to get clarification on the leaf eye diameters for correct bolts. Some say 5/8" for both front/rear eyes, others say 5/8" only on the front eye, and 9/16" on the rear eye. And another person said it was 1/2".

So without having to buy a hardware store, can someone please list out the parts needed?

Springs are stock replacement, with one added leaf.

Truck is a 1993 W250 Ext Cab Cummins

Thank you much!

For the u bolts that hold the springs onto the axle:

The one for the pass side is 4 1/8" inside diameter and 9" long. I would go 10" to be safe.

the other 2 u bolts are 3 1/8" diameter and should be 9" long.

run a 5/8 fine thread instead of whatever is on there. I would also take the 2 studs out and drill for a 5/8 coarse thread and use a grade 8 or 10 bolt there.

This information I cannot guarantee accurate but I'm pretty sure it is right. I did the U bolts a few months ago.

I had 1992 w250. Axle should be the same Dana 60. The spring front eye was 1 1/4" with 5/8" bolt and the front rear eye was 1" with 1/2" bolt. Bushings could be had that would allow 5/8" bolt on rear spring eye.

Do a search on ramchargercentral dot com for HD frame bushing.
