larger fuel tanks

Postby manyholes » Mon Apr 18, 2011 2:12 am

what is the largest tank that dodge came out with that can go under our beds?? im looking for more under bed fuel storage and was wondering what style of tank the ramchargers had and if a guy cant get a bigger saddle tank, then run a rear tank in place of spare tire and run it off a switch like old chevy gassers had(my '80 had a dual tank deal).
is it worth the hassle or???

i know i could plumb my slip tank into the saddle tank but would rather not go that route for when i have to remove the slip tank

Transfer Flow make some big tanks to go in the stock location. IIRC you can get a 45 and maybe a 60 gallon. The RC tank is 35, I have one of those in my truck, it mounts where the spare goes in our trucks.

The standard tank with diesel option is 30 gallon. The gasser trucks had a smaller one standard.

The RC tank has the in tank pump, I drilled the extra port on the stock tank, got a quick coupler from the junkyard and pump into the stocker from the RC. I put a selector switch in the dash to change the signal from the fuel gauge to either tank. The RC sender reads off a little, when it's full it's just below the line, and empty its just above the E line. I think the RC tank came out of an '89 or so.

I made all my own mounting. Round pipe for the front cross brace/mount with angle welded on the ends to bolt it in. It fits the curve of the tank nice. For a filler I used a gasser one I had laying around. It's not quite right, you have to have the nozzle in just the right spot to fill it or the pump keeps kicking off. I'll see if I can find pics, I think theres some around someplace. I couldn't find a pic of the rear since I finished it.
Here's a pic of the frame, round tube to the right is the front mount, and the 2 tabs with holes are the rear for the straps.

thanks for the pic, i should have my truck stripped down this fall when i plan to get the CC on my frame. that will probably be the time for the tank addition.
