Tach/oil psi/temp gauges

Postby RumbleFish » Mon Sep 10, 2007 7:15 pm

Question #1-

A coworker recently installed an Autometer alternator tach, 2888, in his truck. The instructions say to calibrate it. How does one go about doing that?

Question #2-

I want to stop relying on my stock 1983 oil psi and temp gauges. I have a dash pod now, and a pillar pod sitting in my garage. I'm thinking of adding autometer oil pressure and water temp gauges. Where are the good spots on the motor to tap into it? I'd like to leave the stock ones functional, so I can see how far off they are. If thats not possible, I can do without the stockers.

Jeff:

Right above the oil filter there is a plug that you can remove for access to oil pressure. It is towards the fender from your oil feed line that goes to the turbo. You can see my cooper tubing coming up from that area in this photo http://www.turbodieselregister.com/photopost/showphoto.php/photo/1760

An optical tach is the easy way. Know anyone who's into RC planes? Bet they have one.

If you can wait til SOP, I have one. There was a link on TDR (?) for a handheld tach. They were so cheap, I bought 3. I asked my coworkers if anybody wanted one, and got yesses. $23 I think.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.
