Help with parts selection

Postby 69HemiGTX » Mon Mar 05, 2012 6:52 pm

Howdy, y'all! I'm new here, but not to Dodges. I recently bought a 78 crew cab dually after I unexpectedly found it. Being a dually crew, it's 2WD. I'm going to swap it to 4WD using a donor truck, but I want to get the stance shown below. Are the parts used here stock or is there any lift? Any idea what spring and block combo is in the rear? This height is perfect for a dually (to me). It's not too high, and it just looks tough. The truck belongs to DieselHotRodder.

Looks like a 255/85/R16 tires on maybe a leveled front springs. Basically 2" if the springs are really worn out.

Those look like 235/85's to me, 255's are quite tall. Looks like a stock height truck to me...well, from all the one's I have seen. stillsmokins' has the same "stance" and it's stock ;)

Do y'all know what size the 4X4 factory rear lift blocks are? If I'm not mistaken, 2WD duallies don't use blocks at all. I know mine sits awfully low. I'd love to look at mine just to know for sure what's going on under it, but it's 1200 miles away.

I just measured the ones on my 92, they are six inches tall.

That's not b5. Probably closer to b7. I think 92/93 had 6" blocks and earlier trucks have 4" blocks.

Six inches?! Damn, those are tall. I think I'm going to mess around with different springs to help eliminate some of the block height. From what I've read, Chevy springs have a two inch deeper arch than Dodge springs, meaning a 2" Chevy spring is the same as a 4" Dodge. My plan is to use 56" Chevy springs in the rear to get a little softer ride while still being able to handle the load.

You could also do a shackle flip so you don't have to use blocks...or maybe just add a one inch'er and the shackle flip kit to make the total lift in the rear six total inches ;)

As far as the color, judging by the PPG chip sheets I have, it looks like 1971 B5 (PPG PN 2306). 69-70 B5 (PPG PN 2019) is lighter.

Oh yeah, I'm well aware of Jim's components. :D I spoke to him on the phone this past weekend. I'm going to use pretty much everything he makes, including his steering box braces and spring plates.

Personally, I haven't used anything of his yet, but they look like they are made with quality and durability in mind. Eventually, I will upgrade my suspension with some of his parts, I like the greaseable part the best

OK, assuming the rear springs have the same arch between 2WD and 4WD, and I currently have no blocks, I should be able to use Jim's shackle flip mounts, Chevy springs, and no blocks to gain a total of 6" of lift, making my truck the same height as a stock 92-93 4WD one-ton. Clear as mud, right? :?

Crystal clear. Depends on how much arch the Chevy springs have with the same amount of weight on them as the stockers to equal out the same height...
