Clocking a Np205

Postby JustinRhodes » Thu Mar 15, 2012 4:55 pm

Is it possible? I need to have the np205 that came in my truck clocked for driver side drop.

EHH....

shift rails will leak, way easier and lighter to use a 241/271

How do you get a 241 to bolt up to a getrag

How bad would they leak?

I know bolt mounting pattern is the same, but will a 241 slide onto the input of a getrag?

Better question, how do you convert a 23spline 241 to a 29spline?

The 241 is available in 23 OR 29 spline, same as the NP205s for the Getrag.
Converting an NP241 ro 29 spline is as simple as splitting the case and getting appropriate input and bearing, unlike a 205, which requires the specific case and bearing retainer to run the 29 spline input, OR a boatload of machine work.

Another POSSIBLE option is running a FORD 205 with the Dodge 29 spline input, but that may require some machine work, as well.

or if you gotta buy a 241 anyways just look for a 241 thats out of a manual trans truck and it will be 29 spline or have a manual input shaft 29 spline put into case. we do it here at work all the time for people, i work at man-trans of florida.... rear outputs on automatics are 23 and manuals are 29

Make sure if you do get a 241, that it has the speedometer sensor hole and sensor in it. Some of the later ones do not have them.

Ive found the 29 spline input shaft, but how do you know which bearing is needed? Ive heard there is a narrow and a wide bearing.

I'm not sure WHICH bearing the 29 spline uses.
All I do know is that one of them can be a PITA to get and spendy.
