Crew Cab Frame and GVW?

Postby sxd217 » Tue Nov 27, 2012 5:40 pm

Can anybody confirm the GVW is of a 85 Dodge 350 crew cab 8ft bed dually is? I am thinking it is 10,000 lb

Does anybody know whether there are any differences between the frames of a 85 350 crew cab 8ft bed dually verse single wheeled?

Why are the single wheels crew cab only rated for 8510 lbs? the newer trucks are rated as high as 10,100 lbs for single wheels?

Thanks

I'm not sure about a single wheel. My DRW frame has 7" high rails and a local single wheel has 6" rails.

I'll check my door post.

what I am really curious about is if a 85 Dodge crew cab 8ft bed dually is rated for 10,000 GVW, what are the differences between the dually and the single wheel (besides the extra set of wheels) that it is only rated at 8,510 GVW

So DodgeFreak you are saying the single wheels had dana 60's
Did the Duallys have dana 70's?

Could I swap the rear axle to a dana 70 or 80 (with the appropriate spring pack) and could it in theory be rated for 10,000 lb GVW?

My Crew Cab Dually longbed is rated at 10,000 GVW and the door sticker is still legible enough to read it.
There are some 9,000 pound SRW trucks out there, but all of those were pre-1986 that I am aware of and they all used Dana 60s under the rear.
Interesting to note on the SRW 9k trucks is that they did use the 5/8" studs with tapered seat, 1 inch(?) hex lugnuts, in lieu of the 1/2" 13/16" lug nuts.

The Crew Cab frames are all pretty much the same frame from 1981-1985.
The Crew frames from 1973 through 1980 are also the same strength and height, but the rear of the frame is shaped a little different over the rear axle, IIRC the difference was that the later frames have a "shelf" for what I believe was to aid in putting a goose neck plate on the '81-up trucks.

AFAIK, from 1981-1985 all duallies got Dana 70s, as did all of the 1970s dually 1 tons.
Most VAN Chassis with DRW did NOT get a D-70! Those were Dana 60s with 70 tubes stepped down for the 60 center.

My Crew Dually is an '82 and it HAD a 70 under it, until I removed it to put an 80 under it (unfinished, BTW).

Mark.
