Dana 70 speedy sleeve? Leaking seal again...

Postby Diesel » Wed Dec 12, 2012 11:08 pm

My passenger rear wheel seal is leaking once again. I am starting to think it needs a speedy sleeve. Any input on those sleeves and matching seals? I just redid the wheel seal not that long ago and now my truck is automatically rust proofing itself again.

i'm don't think you need a different seal. speedy sleeves are only a few thousandths thick, and the seal surface is already a little worn. i've seen plenty of semi's just speedy sleeve and use a standard seal. i don't think they even make seals in that small of increments

Or.....find a competent parts man and ask him to look for a two piece seal, national makes one cause there's two on my truck. Those seals are like the ones on big truck, they have their own surfaces to ride on.

I think there's an old box in my glove compartment,I'll look for it.

Mark has the right idea. The seal turns inside itself, and stays stationary on the spindle and the hub. Almost all the new trucks have these seals in them.

I dont exactly understand what a two piece seal means but if you can post part numbers I'll buy them and install.

On the other end: what is the exact speedy sleeve I need? Although if what I am picturing a 2 piece seal to be that will definitely fix my issue.

SKF #99287 for the sleeve.
That 2 piece seal sounds like a good deal too!

Doug thanks for the sleeve number. I'd like to see my 2 piece seal option too. I think the 2 piece seal is the way to go. If anyone has the part number laying around please let me know.

The seal isn't 2 pieces, it's 1 unit. It's made like a bearing is the easiest way to describe it. Sorry if I didn't describe it perfectly before. :P
