Dana 60 Axle Seals

Postby oliverbutthead » Sun Dec 23, 2012 2:09 pm

I just recently put in all new seals, bearings, brakes, and kingpins on my truck but have one more thing to do to tidy it up. The inner axle seals are leaking and I need to change those too.

Do you have to have a special tool like a spreader to reinstall the guts of the Dana 60? I looked around a bit and they say to put the bolts back in the spot they came from. Other than that, not sure.

I have never needed a spreader on any d60 i have worked on, couple prybars work fine. Bolts and bearing caps need to go back in proper spot and on the proper orientation, torqued properly too.

Prybar? Do you mean to pop it out after unbolting?

yes, a prybar on each side and it will come out nice and slow. Have something soft on the floor incase it falls out and watch your hands/feet!

Thanks for the help! Hope to get it done soon before all my new front end gets grease and dirt caked all over it again. That was half the battle of rebuilding it, getting it all clean.
