Front leaf spring sackle bushings

Postby RCCUMMINS89 » Sun Mar 10, 2013 6:25 pm

Where can (if I can) find the bushings that go through the frame part of the shackle for the front springs? I have been told by some that no one makes them...... I also know that Jungle Jim makes a set.... but let's be honest, I'd rather find some that aren't $245.

I'm still at the stage that I'm hoping someone can just tell me what to buy. I haven't measured them yet or anything.

Rock Auto: DAYTON Part # RB57 rear spring eye.
I don't believe this is actually what you need, though.

You're likely going to have to go by measurements, ID/OD and length.

I threw the same up on CF and Philip said that the last time he checked the dodge dealer actually had some at the warehouse.... also mentioned that these are a 2 piece bushing, which would def. be different than any other on the truck.

They don't generally tend to go bad, which is probably why they are not a stocking item.
I can recall doing many sets, but never HAVING to remove the upper rear one, since they were always still doing their job.

An option would be to remove the bushings and go with a machined greaseable bronze or brass insert, which might make the ride a bit harsher.

From the writeup i saw about replacing those upper bushings, Jungles kit is well worth the money. I know it was easy when i put his kit in my truck.

The stock bushings aren't hard to replace, I cut off the rivets with a gas axe, burned out the old rubber, punched out the steel inserts, pressed in the new bushings, and bolted the shackle hanger back in place. I had maybe an hour in each side...

I didn't really feel like cutting off the rivets and then bolting them back in is all. I know it is a serious PITA to get the steel insert out when they are on the truck though.... my word.

Backorder?
You might want to figure out a "plan B" alternative.

Does a backorder mean I'll never see them? I don't order things from dodge enough to know.

I know how much fun burning out old rubber is, did it for years. I prefer grinding off a few rivets and tightening a few bolts. 8)

When things start becoming difficult to find, or the stock gets depleted Dodge (dealers, usually) has a habit of declaring stuff on backorder.
Sometimes they have a manufacturer ready and it becomes available fairly shortly, other times, like the OEM Diesel NV4500 bellhousings, they wait for back orders to build up then make a run to fill the orders, plus maybe a few hundred more.
There was also a shortage of 2nd Gen P-7100 throttle cables over the last year, now a notable number of the "recall throttle cable kits" are available.

Sometimes Dodge cancels backorders altogether and returns funds.

I'm sure you realize that Dodge licenses (contracts) certain companies to do certain items, if the contractor has ceased operations, then usually further production of old parts is not possible, because equipment to do so is usually destroyed.

I'm not trying to scare you, things like this do happen and I have more than once been victim to the "interminable backorder, then CANCEL" deal.
Just trying to give you a fair heads up.

What's the Chrysler part number for the bushings, anyway?

Mark.
