Dana 80

Postby rockbuggy4x4 » Mon Jul 08, 2013 10:57 am

I was looking around the other day for wms-wms measurements for a Dana 80. Well, I found it and stupid me didn't write it down. And now I can't find it anywhere. I do remember reading that the C&C axle is shorter then the SRW, and the SRW is shorter then the pickup dually. Does anyone have the measurements? And also, are there Ford/Chevy Dana 80s with the 8x6.5 lug pattern? Can't really find any solid info on that either.

Are you just looking for a ring and pinion upgrade? If so...

From what I am to understand the Dana 80 has the same size wheel bearings as the 70 you already have. Sorry I've nothing to add regarding widths.

I have all 3 versions here, C&C, SRW and Dually full bed.
All with drum brakes.
I may wander out in the heat to-day and get measurements.

Mark, is there any difference in the WMS for the D80 SRW with disc brakes vs. drum brakes?

Just wondering ;)

I can't definitively answer that, since I don't have a SRW D-80 with disc brakes around.
I DO have a C&C D-80 with disc brakes that I can compare with the drum version.
I doubt they are any different, because both the disc and drum versions used the same wheels in 2001 and there were BOTH drum and disc in that year alone.

I suspect the same is true with the SRW version.

BTW, a 2nd Gen SRW drum brake D-80 is significantly wider than a 1stgen SRW D-70.
It locates the wheel/tire combo nearly even with the bed side.

Horus- That's an interesting thread. But I'm hoping to put the D80 on my crew cab build, so no spool for me.
Mark- That world be greatly appreciated. And if you're ever interested in selling one, just let me know a price/condition/etc.

I'm pretty sure the D70 SRW is around 65.25" (or .75). The wms-wms should be the same weather its drum brakes or disc. The back plating/ flange where they mount to might be a little different though, but I'm not sure about that.

Okay, after a 20 minute sweat, here is what I found, keep in mind that I am also mentioning the years and drive:

C&C 2001, 4x2, disc brakes, 69.00 inches.
C&C 2000, 4x2, drum brakes, 68.00 inches.
SRW 1998, 4x4, drum brakes, 69.50 inches.
DRW 1998, 4x2, drum brakes, 72.00 inches.

These are axles of KNOWN origin, in that I either pulled them myself, or they were removed from vehicles that I saw before hand, not from some pile of axles somewhere.
I feel I am pretty close on these measurements, given that I did them with no tape holder and that I was sweating rivers while doing it.

I find it interesting that the 2 C&C axles (Disc vs. Drum) are an inch different, given that the 2000/2001 DRUM brake C&C axles are called as interchangeable in the J/Y interchange.

Also note that the '01 disc and 1998 SRW drum axle are a mere 1/2" in width different, overall.
