Flat bed conversion

Postby Farmboy » Mon Sep 09, 2013 9:45 am

Ok so my rust repair on the bed doesn't seem to be holding up too well as it is already starting to poke through in a couple places. Unfortunately due to a circumstances beyond my control my truck ended up being my daily driver the first two winters after the paint job... and I live in Ohio.. so.. you get the picture.

And I want to apologize because I know this has been talked about a bunch but I can't find any of the threads.

So to put it all in one place:
1990 W350 single wheel.

I want a dually flatbed along with all SIX dually rims. What do I have to change as far as axle components and spacers???
1990 W350 4X4 NOW INTERCOOLED 5-speed. Boost/Pyro. Few light tweaks to the pump. Now a dually with an aluminum flatbed!!

Dually hubs for the front, and DRW d70 or d80. And of course, wheels. Thats my understanding from a quick search on cf.

Some use spacers on the rear axle to gain the needed width, but spacers can be dangerous especially if you're going to haul anything heavy in the bed. A drw axle would be ideal.

Also to my understanding a c/c d70 drw is 6" wider than a srw, and a regular drw d70 is 12" wider.

Again, more info from what I read.

Ok so can anyone tell me the axle widths of a dana 70 SRW, Dana 70 DRW, and a C&C dana 70 DRW???

I thought I read somewhere that when you are not trying to contend with a wheel well on a pickup bed that a SRW can be converted to a DRW without any clearance issues. But I be darned if I can find that thread anywhere....

The inner wheels will hit the leaf springs if you use a single rear wheel axle. Pm dar and ask him about his spacers,I believe they are steel and he has worked them.

I have a drw axle for less than what those spacers will run you. Add your carrier and go!

Its missing the carrier and gears. I think it used to be a 3.54 bbut not for sure. Has axle shaft and brakes etc. I was going to use the carrier in my truck in this axle for a drw conversion, but gave up on that idea. Pm me if youre interested.
