"GATE OPEN" light?

Postby Begle1 » Wed Nov 14, 2007 4:20 pm

I was driving the other day with the sun behind me, and I was able to see that there was a place for a "GATE OPEN" idiot light under the left-turn blinker indicator.

Does that light work for anybody?

Gee, you ever think D-C might have used the same dash in the Ramcharger? :hs:

Yup, and it even lights up when the rear gate is open!!! I can take pics if youd like, but make it snappy. I have taken a deposit on the truck and he might pick it up at any minute.

I'm stackin 'em deep and sellin 'em cheap! Pics are forthcoming.....ok, don't hold your breath.

It was all I had to drive. I used some of the money from my crew sale to take care of some debt I had. So I sold the RC to recoup the cash from the debt payment. I planned to take the cash I had left over and buy a nice 1st gen, something I could just get in and drive without repairing it weekly. Then the better (?) half added her 2 cents......supposedly I don't need a truck.

Long story short I bought a first gen....Plymouth Neon that is. It is my 3rd, Neons are my other hobby vehicle. Quite a combo, eh? I plan on banking my truck fund, maybe add somemore, maybe take my tax return, and buy a nice one in the spring. Just long enough to show her that I DO need a truck.

Oh, and it wasn't D-C back then, and it ain't no more! Get with the times, gramps!!!

Want the short version? The same dash is used in your truck and Ramchargers. They just don't have bulbs or wireing that feeds them in your truck.

Don't RamChargers have vertical doors in the back? Or do they have a tailgate-window set-up?

If they have the vertical doors, the light should say "Door Open". If they have the tailgate set-up, it'd probably be something easy to retrofit to our trucks?

I could stick a custom idiot light in there and it'd be real slick...

The 74-80 Ramcharger had the tailgate and widow setup, much like a truck with a camper shell. They had no light on the dash. The 81-93 RC's had a one piece hatch that flipped up.

I suppose if it said door open, it could also be mistaken for the driver or passenger door. If it said hatch, we probably would not be having this discussion.

So I would imagine that the sender is on the tail-gate part of the RamCharger, right?

Seems to me like there's enough similarity between tailgates that it'd be a really easy retrofit.

Why anybody would want to have an idiot light telling you that your tailgate is open, I don't know...

I don't know if it is on the gate itself or on the body. I'll have to look...its dark and getting cold, so it'll have to wait until tomorrow.
