Steering issue fixed on 4" lift 1993 w250

Postby fxr3 » Wed Nov 13, 2013 11:01 pm

I'm always taking from this site and not much giving. Last year when I was just about over this truck, even though it is cherry and Ive had for 10 years.
New everything in front double stabilizers, bla, bla, bla…. It was still a handful sometimes to drive down the road.
A couple years ago driveline guy told me those little PYRAMID pads between spring pack and axle were illegal and they could not adjust camber, toe in toe out, or whatever you call it. I asked to take them out, but he said they were there to lessen angle of front driveshaft.
He later said if he cut u-joint yoke out out some, we could remove PYRAMIDS. He did, and my steering improved a 100% as he was able to adjust toe the way it needed to be. Thats it.

Someone put shims in your front axle? I'm surprised you could keep the damn thing on the road.

Good post none the less........some folks tend to not bring that up and many spring companies (lift kit companies) sell their stuff with shims and many shops install them with shims.

Waaay back when I owned my W350 the first time, I 'wheel'd it pretty hard. I broke one of those "wedges" out in the boonies...spit it right out the front. Pulled the rest of it out, and the other side at the same time...and that's when I started going through driveshafts

Its retired from 'wheelin these days.

I'd rather go through driveshafts than pile up the whole truck. I've driven a truck with front shims........ya, not cool.
