Half Ton Frame Questions

Postby cummins12club » Thu Nov 21, 2013 5:52 am

I bought a donor truck this past weekend to fix mine. After tearing mine apart I found that my frame looked like Swiss chesse from the cab back, so I doubt a nice solid club cab body and frame in North Carolina I picked up. This truck is a half ton and I can tell that the leaf springs and all the shackles look smaller then my old 3/4 ton stuff I'm curious if the actual frame itself is smaller/lighter. I'm trying to get down to 5000lbs so hopefully my new frame/suspension will help with that

Shackles are actually the same, the through bolts are smaller or bigger on certain models/years.

I think you'll be totally fine. There isn't much difference in the frames, if any. (talking gasser 1/2 vs the early 3/4 diesels)

The rear shackle mounts are way smaller both sides of the springs, the springs themselves are smaller w less leafs (in rear) so I will save some weight there but the frames apear to be the same, will the gasser 4wd engine crossmember work or will I need to cut out my diesel one?
