Swap to a 2nd Gen Rear end, what changes?

Postby kd0ezq » Fri Nov 29, 2013 10:16 pm

I have the chance to buy a Dana 70 Rear End out of a 2nd Gen. It has 3.55 gears and limited slip. It is the right gear set for my 91. My main reason for swapping is the factory stagger bugs me and Id want the wider rear end.

I know the 2nd Gens have 3" wide springs, but this one comes with the Ubolt plates.

I was told I would have to modify the Spring Perches, shock mounts and the drive shafts, is this true?

Please let me know...

Thanks

I couldn't tell you about the driveshaft but I would imagine it is the same because the ring and pinion dimensions wouldnt be different. As far as shock mounts, use the first gen spring plates and not sure if you can reuse the wider spring perches. I cut the 2nd gen ones off mine and bought aftermarket spring perches.
