Steering issue

Postby 89dudney » Wed Jan 29, 2014 7:45 am

Last night i finished putting my front end back together. I repacked all the bearings and put new seals in it. Everything was set to spec. I went for a test drive and my steering wheel has a catch in it now. When i turn to the left about an 1/8th of a turn, there is a slight catch in the steering. It feels almost like my tire catching on the mud flap, but they have plenty of clearance and I was on flat ground. It only does it to the left. Any ideas of what could be causing the catch??????????

Axle shaft U-joint? Put it on stands and pull the wheels. Turn the steering shaft with your hand as you look at everything, might have something moving just enough to bind.

Steering shaft u joints can go bad. Does it have vacuume hubs or locking? Jack her up and spin that wheel see what it does

I don't know what was causing it. I took the front end back apart and loosened my lock nut on my driver side hub. That seemed to solve most of the problem even though Im not sure how that would play into it.

What did you set the bearing pre-load at?
