Levi, thanks for the heads up. That really doesn't sound like it's all that bad a deal.....as long as the thing holds up.
Have you tried a synthetic lube with it yet? It might be a viscosity thing with it.....thick grease holding it apart...or something.
The noise is a non issue with me.....if noise bothered me I wouldn't own anything with a Cummins in it

As for taking it apart.....that sucks but that's also a piece of cake. Now that I think of it....getting a carrier is just backlash shiming anyhow..... its the little things I miss

Wonder what I can find used 8)

The best that locker has ever worked is with some oil we had ordered to try on our shaker bearings. "Super Tac" 85-140. The stuff pours like gear oil, but is really stringy like honey. IMO the locker couldn't be beat after I put that stuff in. It's what's still in there, but who knows what shape it's in...

I'll pull it in the shop and check it soonish for you, see if the fluid is to blame.

Cool beans....it would be interesting to know that, and I ain't in any hurry. I've been dealing with the famous Peg leg 2wd syndrome for just shy of 10yrs so I can wait awhile

I appreciate it Levi ;)

Yeah, I went 10 years too. I couldn't believe the difference with an LSD. I used to be able to spin the tire at will on take off, now if I drop the clutch without R's up it will puke and jump around because there is no give back there.
The cool thing now is I can pull out of work, stomp on it and the whole ass end goes sideways for 100 feet down the road as it billows black smoke out of the stacks. 8)
The truck drivers that work next door love it.

Pffftt.... f lockers. I can't even spin my tires now unless I'm at a dead stop. It was raining wet out today and I laid the hammer down at 30mph.... Just took off.

I need more power, this is really disappointing. I have a no go fast truck. Makes a lot of torque, just can't use it.

I can never get The Roo Hunter to light up with its limited slip except dumping the clutch with some rpm there. I like having that traction though. Jaeger won't even light up after I'm rolling. Yesterday I was fooling around and from a stop going around corners I could get her ass way out on dry pavement though which was fun

With the softer springs, I notice that my weight shifts even harder to the rear as well now. Rear of the truck drops a lot.

Well, this thread may explain all these stories I hear about 4th gear rolling burnouts all the time, it seems having both tires turning isn't a requirement to brag about such a thing. I no longer feel like my truck is some unexplainable turd now.

I only did 4th gear rolling burnouts in the rain with 1 wheel peel. And not intentionally either! :(

I did a Lincoln locker on my duster many years ago. It lasted about a month before it made a real bad noise and quit driving. I was a mile from home when it puked and made it far enough I only had to walk a half mile. 8) Something about a well built 340 with a stout 904 trans and burning it around the corners...... ;)

I'll see if I can do 4th gear rolling burnouts with The Roo Hunter after I rebuild the engine with a 13mm p pump. Then I'll see what jaeger will do with 800 horsepower

I haven't even done a 2nd gear burnout!! I don't really like putting my drivetrain through that. I have a race car for that kind of shenanigans. :P

I've had mine break both loose in 2nd, but it happens so far up in the rpm range that it ain't impressing anybody.

Ellis, I think I was definitely due for a change. This stuff was a little darker than ATF when it went in.

Can help but notice the junk on the magnet as well,is that coming off that locker?

I'd have to find out where the water is coming from

I dunno, the flakes aren't big so I consider it normal wear. Especially with water-filled oil.

I had it out on a couple trails a while ago, probably dipped it a bit too deep in a water hole.

I put 80/90 gear oil in it and it still didn't want to lock up pulling out onto the road. I'll let it get used to this fluid, but I may try something thicker in it if it doesn't straighten up.

I guess, depending on mileage and usage, that could be called normal for an open diff. Me personally.....I don't want to see any metal in a open differential's fluid.

I think I'm going for one :)
