Noisy Front Suspension,Clanking Noises Over Bumps???

Postby Fred Average » Thu Mar 27, 2014 8:39 am

1992 D250,55K Miles,360,Auto,2WD.

Sounds like a loose caliper or shock?

Everything seems secure, but still sounds like a bucket of bolts is hanging under the front end.

Truck has never been damaged nor in an accident.

Even a small road imperfection does it.

Occasionally braking will prevent it,but not every time.

Anyone else experience this?

Thanks All :D

Do you happen to have a front sway bar?

I had the clanking over bumps and it was my shocks. The issue you're having could be soooooo many things that its best to start looking at every single thing under the front end. Remember that even if it doesn't move when you try to move it by hand doesn't mean the parts not out of tolerance for normal driving.

Well... Found THE PROBLEM!

The trans cooler line entering the lower radiator tank on the left hand side, was at some point in the trucks life was leaking a small amount of ATF onto the inner/rear left front strut rod bushing.

This in turn prematurely rotted/decayed the rubber and it was the strut rod banging against the bracket/hole in the frame it goes thru.

MOPAR doesn't sell the replacement parts anymore, but NAPA has a great replacement bushing set.

Drives like a Cadillac now :-)

The part number is: 2749144

Much better neopream type material!

Should outlive me!...:-)
