Late Model OEM 8 Lug Wheels That Work/Fit 1st.GEN.Trucks?

Postby Fred Average » Thu Mar 27, 2014 11:52 am

Hi :) I understand that on my 1992 D250 2WD I have 8 on 6.5 lug pattern wheels.

Ideally I'd like to get a 16x8 or 1" wider (over the OEM SIZE) steel rim to properly fit a wider 275/285/? and 85 series road tire.

Additionally,I understand Chrysler went to a metric lug pattern,"changed the game" like Ford did in 1997/later on,screwing up the "good old days" of all 8 lug applications interchanging respective of the hub ID on said rims.

AKA: Dodge and Ford interchanged,GM had a smaller ID hub "hole".

So my question is what late model wheels,Ford,MOPAR,etc will bolt on?

Steel,Aluminum or otherwise?

Thank You. :)

The '97 and older Ford steel rims are 16" x 7". Your Dodge hubcaps and trim rings may not work though.

My personal favorite is the '97 and back factory Ford aluminum rim. They are also 16"x 7".

Chevy up to 2010, ford up to 97, and Ram up to current will fit the pattern.

Note, Chevy hubs are smaller but any aftermarket company makes them interchangeable.

Hi All... I can't thank you all enough for the great pictures and info to help ID said rims!

Looks like I might have found a set of the exact ones I like, the Alcoa round hole type off a Ford.

Thank You All ....Very Much! :bball:

Thanks for all the great info and pictures :)

Well,I'm still looking for wheels and a question...

Do the 2WD diesels come with wider steel rims than the gas 2WD's?

In pictures I've seen they look deeper :)

I'd be happy with 4 of those!

Any input appreciated,Thank You!

As far as I know, they are the same 16x6 steel wheels.

Thanks,16x6 huh?

All the same width?

A neighboring rancher has a Cummins 2WD & his wheels look wider in relation to how much deeper the hubcap sits into the wheel.

Figured I'll find a set of 6's /stock rims then & have 'em widened unless someone can suggest a good aftermarket source.

Anyone deal with Stockton Wheel or Pete Paulsen?

I understand they make wheels...

Learned that the 4WD's have bigger OD studs so running those wheels, steel or otherwise wasn't an option as the 2WD lug nuts go too deep into the seat/taper,plus can't then attach the center hub caps which use the 4WD lugs to retain them/hold them on!

I don't follow what you're saying. I've ran the same wheels on my 2wd as my 4wd.
