Why are wheel studs so expensive?!

Postby bgilbert » Thu Mar 27, 2014 6:50 pm

$4.99 each for 5/8's wheel studs for the front drw axle! I'm doing a srw to drw front hubs swap on a 93 w350. I've got tons of the longer rear 5/8's wheel studs. But it looks like they'll look ugly sticking out as much as they will.. $5 bucks each times 16?! Not cool.

How much will they stick out? Cut the excess length off.

Quick story...... I needed the Dorman 610-283 (9/16 studs). I called Napa auto parts, they wanted $4.08 a piece  I then called O'reilly auto parts, they wanted $1.99 a piece. I then called Autozone, and they wanted $1.49 a piece.

Point being.... have you shopped around yet?

Sure have. Same price from all three  . I might end up stealing them from a set of external drw hubs. Might try cutting them to length too, but you know how that is, F it up, get a nick or the like and the lug nut isn't happy.

Yea, I would cut them down... that is just ridiculous paying $80 for front studs.

Cut it down with the lug nut on it. When you take the nut off it will clean the threads out.

What am I a newbee? lol

So I knocked one out of the other set of drw hubs I have. Turns out the knurlled section, whatever it's called, is in a different spot than the rear 5/8's studs. So I can't use them. Looks like I'm using the ones out of the other set of hubs.
