Better Ride

Postby CWT » Fri Apr 11, 2014 2:53 pm

My truck is a single wheel D350. It done have a overload spring on it. But the previous owner said it rode like crap. I don't have one to look at, but is the rear springs in a D250 the same or is the spring in my truck the same as a dual wheel truck? Or are they all the same?

They are all more or less the same. The number of leafs can change. The overload leafs you mention are a separate leaf pack rides above the main pack and engage strikers mounted on the frame when the load weight becomes enough to allow.

I have a 92 D350, I only have a regular 5 leaf pack and 1 heavy one below it for a helper. I think the duallies and the heavier sprung trucks had the 2nd overload pack.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

dad's heavy 3/4 ton has 5 leaves on the primary and another 4 on the overloads. It rides pretty rough.

I may try shorting the spring pack up some then. I don't plan on hauling a D12 dozer with it.

My D150 only has 3 springs in the pack.

Take every other leaf out of the pack instead of the bottom two(if you have 5). That will help some.

I have chevy 52" rear springs up front and the same configuration I just mentioned in the rear for now. Truck hits bumps a bit more cushioned than my 14' with the coils in the rear. Only it doesn't recuperate and track well compared to my new truck. On a long road trip it would be a toss up in the ride department. But my 91' would keep you awake with its real truck feel. Lol

91'w250 with a new pump. This one doesn't chase itself around in a circle.
