single wheels to duals?

Postby TRACTJDS0428 » Mon Apr 14, 2014 6:46 pm

What issues am I looking at making my single rear wheel into a dually? Found a free really nice dually bed and thinkin it may be easier to throw duals on. Suggestions? Pics?

Youll need a drw pickup axle, 6 wheels/tires, and drw front hubs. DO NOT leave your srw wheels on the front or youll face ridicule from bill gilbert.

Put the simulator hubcaps on the front and the peckerheads won't know the difference unless they climb under it! ;)

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

I did what your thinking of doing....and found it was a mistake. Yes - you can find front adapters to mount to your existing hubs...and yes you can find the duals to install. but the geometry doesn't perform well...I have a 3/4 ton d250 cummins - and the original buyer ordered a 1 ton rear end to pull 5th wheels with more capacity (maybe a dana 80 or 70hd) the truck got very squirrel y - didn't like any changes in pavement at all...would "chase" any elevation changes. I hated it. I went back to srw within a month...and wa-la...the truck drives great.

What is your motivation for wanting 6 wheels anyway...capacity?

Duallies look better! Do it! But you gotta get the dually front hubs or your truck could end up like boomer's was ^. lol

And to be DOT legal, you'll have top add clearance lights on top of the cab, and have functioning side markers and rear cluster on the tailgate area...most DOT enforcement types rarely care, but there is always that a$$ out there that will get ya for it.

Already have top clearance lights.

Your one step ahead of the game if you do convert to duals ;)
