WTF? Wheel rim won't slide onto drum

Postby theoldmanW350 » Sat May 24, 2014 12:39 am

I almost can't take the siht i've gone through to get my rear brake job completed. Won't bore you with details. When I first started, the pass. side rim wouldn't clear the axle shaft flange. I needed to remove the shaft first. Of course in my excitement to finish this ordeal I slapped on both axles and buttoned it up. I know I can just remove the pass. axle shaft mount the tire loosely then slap the axle back in. What about if/when i get a flat? The rim is just barely and i mean barely catching on the axle flange. Any thoughts to why this may be? I've removed the rear tires in the past and they slid right off. bad wheel torque down? I can only go to 140lb so in the past i cheater barred it just a 1/4 turn more and called it good. any thoughts appreciated.

If it were me, I'd take the flap disk to it and shave just enough off to get the wheel on the hub.

If this is a SRW W350 check for a bent wheel center hole. This condition is usually caused by a tire machine that clamps the wheel by pulling down a rod that goes through the center of the wheel. The tire machine distorts the center of the opening by taking it out of round. This is also one of those Dodge engineering features that are a time bomb waiting to happen due to a very poor wheel design. You can replace the wheel or get a large round or half round bastard file and remove the distortion provided that is the problem.

You're both on my wave length. Thought about both you're ideas. I know it's not a huge issue but thought I'd throw it out there. I'll take my dremel to it ever so lightly.

That's what I do. I have one the right diameter so I don't out-of-round the hole.
