Hub Nut Change

Postby Diesel » Mon Jul 07, 2014 2:26 pm

On my rear 70 I have the nyloc style lock nut that uses those red tangs for locking. Is it possible to swap that to the 2 nut system? I replace those nyloc nuts every time I have it apart and would much rather just have the 2 reusable nuts. Part numbers would be great. Its a 1991.5 intercooled automatic single rear wheel.

Yes you can use the two nut system that is stock on the front dana 60's (w250/350's). I did it to mine so i know they work.

I got mine here:

I do not know the original manufacturer part number though.

So you snug the one with the nub on it, install the one with the holes, then really torque the outer one with 4 slots? Thats it no other stuff to install?

Cool thanks. And this will fit the rear 70, right? I don't have a front 60.

Correct. It isn't just a "snug" and go sorta deal, you can burn up bearings that way. I set mine exactly how the fronts are set, torqued to spec and backed off a certain amount. I don't have access to my FSM, otherwise I'd paste up a picture with the specs on it.

I set my inner nut by feel, certain amount of drag (very little). I then tighten the outer as much as i can, you cannot get it too tight with the prong style socket as it will slip after so much.

And yes for the rear 70.
