Limited slip diff

Postby Jelmer » Tue Jan 20, 2015 12:51 am

My 93 2wd has a open rear end but I would like to have a limited slip in it. In my BMW I have a clutch style lsd which you don't feel when turning so I would like to have something like this in my Dodge.

Any suggestions?

The Spicer Power-Lok is a great limited slip. Was a factory option for our trucks, easily rebuilt, and plenty of parts still available.

You may want to look into a detriot trutrac. You get a limited slip that doesn't have clutch discs that wear out.

All steel clutches will fix that ;)

x2 on the Detroit Trutrac. No clutches to rebuild and it still uses standard gear oil. Clutch type LSD's generally use a light oil like tranny fluid, or actual tranny fluid. I always run the Trutrac in the rear of my street driven rigs. Never had an issue.

Never seen any LSD use anything but gear oil. Generally, a friction modifier is added to the gear oil for the clutches...

I went with a Powr-Lok and have been very happy with it. As already mentioned, easy to come by and parts are readily available. It does not make any difference which design you go with, when you have moving parts sliding against each other, something has to wear. I would prefer to replace clutch packs, others may feel different.

I think we will go for the clutch type because we are familiar with these in our BMW's.
