Upper 2WD Ball Joints

Postby Diesel » Sat Jan 24, 2015 10:44 pm

Man those threaded in ball joints are a pain. I got all other bushings and ball joint pressed out. Unthreading that top ball joint is damn near impossible. I wasn't able to make it budge on the truck so I finally took the arm off. Would anyone have a suggestion? I could use an angle grinder to notch it and then use a chisel to try and get it to turn. Any other ideas? I don't want to get out the acetylene because it will ruin the arm.

New, and upgraded, A-Armsare available on EBay.

That said, I used an electric 3/4" impact. Spun them out after a few hits.

I like mine. For the time I put into pressing 1 set of bushings and 1 upper balljoint, I should have bought the new A-arms in the first place.

Around 500 miles now.

Andy (dazed&confused) I think runs them in the Duck. A guy on CF has had them for +2 years now.

Thanks. Theres a post over on CF too and it seems like the aftermarket arms get good reviews there too. It goes against every grain of my being to buy Chinese arms for my first gen but they are $89 a pair with free shipping compared to $170 each for Mopar!

It is, in my opinion, not so much the Chinese quality on something like this that is in question but machining. Chineseium is getting better at casting and pressing but tight tolerances are lacking.

They really do use some junky metal too though. I've had some chinese things bend that really shouldn't. Had these parts not come with the recommendation of someone else I wouldn't do it...heres to hoping these keep my truck as dead nuts reliable as its been.

I don't run them yet but have looked into them. Chris (Skilletky) had put them on his 1st gen though. Its still running around.

What's the verdict on the import A-Arms? I've got a ball joint project in the new future and I'm trying to figure out my plan of attack.

15k miles later, the ball joints are junk.

The A-arms and bushings are holding up.

My A-arms are good. I didn't buy them with ball joints and bushings and pressed in my own Moog ball joins and moog rubber parts.
