coil over shocks

Postby 1992gen1_fan » Fri Mar 13, 2015 1:38 pm

I think the rear shocks on my truck are getting bad. Are there and coil over "helper" shocks available that would be a direct replacement? Some for the front wouldn't hurt also if there is such things for our trucks.

I checked with the local O'Reillys and they could get some for 2nd gens but couldn't find any for pre 94.

Monroe has them. Be careful on the front though. I had a set on my 91 and kept tearing the double cardan out of my front drive shaft. Turned out the 1 1/2" more travel in the shocks was enough to put my driveshaft in a bind when the front end would extend.

OK I'll have to look into the Monroe's. I'll keep that in mind on the fronts, the fronts on my truck aren't that old anyway so I may not even mess with the front if there's a chance of messing up the driveshaft I just got done fixing lol.

Would you happen to have a part# for those Monroe's? Haven't had much luck in my search. Are they for a w350?

Took me a while to find Monroe's shock specification information in my archive. Couldn't find it on their web site anymore. The part number I used was 58496, the one that was the closest match to the gas magnum 34852.

I looked into these. For me, the specs were not even close according to the Monroe catalog I was looking in. At least not to the 92-93 shocks that compensate for the 6"rear blocks. They were reasonably close to the older trucks shock dimensions that used the 4" blocks.
