2nd Gen Wheels

Postby whereswaldo250 » Fri Dec 14, 2007 8:43 pm

I know that this has been a topic that has been brought up and discussed time and time again, and I know that it is a hassle. I love the look of the later 2nd gen wheels 00-02, but I am wondering if the hassle is worth it? Is it easy to upgrade to 9/16 studs? Best place to get them? I know GLHS has them on his truck, but he has a D80 in the rear with discs, is that needed to make them fit? Any help would be great, trying to decide if it is worth the hassle.

Best Regards

you'll need spacers for the fronts to clear the calipers also.

I think it's a sticky on DTR. The back lugs on a 70 are easy to change. Just get the right part numbers.
The four 2" spacers are about $300.

If you put 2" spacers on the lugs how many threads are left? In other words how many turns will the lug nit do?

The spacers have their own studs. The new studs are in between the old ones. You use open acorn nuts that are recessed in the spacer. You can get them with the 9/16" studs and leave your 1/2" studs on the truck.

Yes, the spacers have their own 9/16" studs so you can use 2nd gen lugs and centercaps.
I just thought it looked kinda wimpy bolting the nice spacer/adapters to 1/2" studs.

Well I do not know if I want to go that far. Do I need any spacers or 9/16 lugs for 2nd gen wheels from 94-97? I did a little bit of research on (on DTR) this but I am not sure if I have to go to 9/16th lugs. Do you think that finding some ford alcola wheels would be a better bet?

Decisions....?

CB Parker from the TDR had 2ndGen rims on his 1stGen, and in pics, looked alright. He didnt report any rubbing on corners.

Do the same 2" spacers work for 2wds? If so, where can I get them?

I've gotten mine off ebay. Just search for wheel spacers and weed through all the foolish metric ford ones. If you can't find the 9/16", you can use the 14mm ones.
