Dodge Intermediate Steering Shaft Coupler Sealing Problem

Postby bent1 » Tue Aug 18, 2015 11:07 am

After rebuilding the coupler, I couldn't keep the tin retainer tabs to hold, thought I had it compressed with C clamps. Here's my solution, it's a steering rack boot from a 95 Chevy Cavilier. Got mine from NAPA, $7., part number 15002d. I had to grind smooth the rusty shaft 8" up from coupler and lube with oil to slip the small end onto the shaft. Next grind smooth the outer edge on the coupler opening. This will protect the boot from being cut or worn.

Slip boot onto shaft & proceed with repair as stated in kit instruction sheet. I zip tied both ends as supplied in the kit. As always, this is just what i did, and no guarantee is ensured.

I'm linking to Ramcharger Central as the pics are already uploaded. Hope this helps those keeping their 1st gens alive.
