Dodge dana 60 vs ford dana 60 (king pin)

Postby Paul » Fri Aug 28, 2015 6:04 pm

Does anyone know why the ford king pin 60 is better than the dodges?
Read that the ford axle is an upgrade but couldnt find out why.

Only reason I've seen is due to ford being a driver side drop, versus pass side with the dodge. Clears alot of room for larger downpipe and you don't have to battle with front driveshaft, tcase, etc.

Ford dana 60 fronts are driver side drop. The reason people like them is that they have a high pinion center which improves drive shaft ground clearance and lowers the front angle. They also use a reverse cut gear set which is a bit stronger then the low pinion axles.

New to dodges, i knew the fords were hi pinion reverse cut. I figured the dodge was the same because it was the same era, after looking around seems like they were kinda exclusive to ford.

Visually it just kinda looks like the low pinion ford 60s in the high boy fords is lower than the dodges

I am pretty sure that Ford's also had dual piston calipers vs the Dodge single piston.
