Brake lines 1/4 & 3/16 help

Postby Collers9640 » Wed Oct 14, 2015 7:20 am

With regards to the hydroboost mod.
The Chevy and 2nd gen M/C have a 1/4 line and a 3/16 line but 1st gens somply have two 3/16 lines.
I maybe over thinking this and making it a big deal but after all were talking about brakes so....
Is there a difference in 1st gen and 2nd gen calipers as far as the 1st gen requiring less fluid volume but more pressure and vice versa.
Does any one know which calipers are better and if you can use 2nd gen calipers if they are better?

I have to reduce my brakes ski figured this would be a good time to see if anyone has so insight for me.

As far as I know, the 2nd gen calipers will not work on our trucks. Many guys have done the hydroboost conversion and have left the rest of the system alone.

That what I ended up doing. But I still would like to know why a 1/4 line is used in Chevy and 2nd gens

Larger bore master cylinders and larger wheel cylinders need larger brake lines.
