That's tempting BILTIT, I'm in a tight situation financially unfortunately though......especially tempting as I have open diffs :?

Have you considered an he351 Dave? It will cool a little better and spools about the same as a 35

I don't have my feet in the mud when it comes to fuel and air. I'll figure something out this summer. I figured the he351 pushes about the same as a 40. I was thinking I would only moderately test the limits of my head gasket.

Merlin a 5spd and 3:07's isn't to good of a combo. Those gears like a 6 spd better. The big holes in the 5 spd gearing would suck on a mountain.

I second this ^^^. With the 3.07's in my pile with the NV4500, the 3-4 hole is about 700-800 rpm's during normal driving. I really like the 3.07's, but a 6 spd would be a welcome addition. 75mph, 5th gear, 32.5" tires = 1800 rpm.

I've been fantasizing about putting in a nv5600 for awhile now. If I find a deal I will jump on it.

There was one locally that had been stripped to put new bearings in it, I ho-hummed about it for too long as it sold in a week. The price on the listing was only $1000...cheapest price I've seen by far for a NV5600. I'd love to have one in my 91, it'd make the 3.07's very tolerable...

ROFLMAO did it about 6 years ago. CP59 has driven my truck not to long after I did the swap.

How much are salvage yards asking for those G56s?

As much as the market will bear. They will not be cheap from there. Plus you would be hit with a high core charge.

CL or the classifieds on sites that have the later model trucks. Ebay you won't find a deal there or at least I have never seen one there.

I just read through your post and got disgusted and quit when you said you got that tranny for less than 750. That is amazing. I'm gonna start actively searching for one now. I got the fever. I'll say it's your fault when the wife starts bitching.

Just finished installing my 4:10's in the front end to match the rear I put in last year. WOOT, rev city. I like it for what its used for. Some day may make a dual stick transfer case shifter for the crawl 2 wheel peel. I use 4 low with 1 hub unlocked now when I need to creep but don't need 4 wheel drive.

When looking at a G56. See if there is any in/out play in the output shaft. If there is knock the price down a lot.

Remove the PTO cover on the driver side. If the cluster shaft has any front to back play. Knock the price down even more.

2WD and $X$ use the same trans. The only difference is a drive flange for drive shaft attachment. That is only held on with a bolt then the drive flange slides off. The output shaft is a standard 29 spline.

Look at the model number. There is a metal tag on the passenger side. A G56-6 is a .79 OD. A G56-R is a .74 OD. You want the .79 with 3:07's unless your running tall tires.

Richie O, is there some kind of advantage to locking 1 hub in 4 lo opposed to keeping them both open?

I always have mine locked in so I just pop out of the truck and unlock the drivers side hub.
