My shaft is too long

Postby liftarc » Mon Nov 07, 2016 1:34 pm

Ive been working on my 92 D350 for the last few months (build thread with pics on the way) and I hit a snag when I tried to install my driveshaft last weekend.

Front section goes in with carrier bearing bolts towards the rear of their slots on the frame.

Rear section seems 1"-1.5" too long.

Donor truck was a 92 W250 with getrag. I put the getrag, 205, and trans xmember in the 92 D350 in place of the auto it had.

Both trucks are club cab long beds and I thought both trucks had a D70 rear and the dually is just a bit narrower.

Is the dually axle's pinion longer? Am I missing something else?

I plan to run the srw d70 so I dont want to shorten the draveshaft if swapping axles solves this issue.

Just thinking out loud here but is their a difference in driveshaft length to accommodate the ride height of the 4wd? That would explain this issue in my mind but I dont know if theres an inch and a half of difference on account of the rear spring blocks.....

The transmission and transfer case are longer than the 518 2wd transmission.

Im not using the 2wd auto driveshaft. Im using the driveshaft that came out of the donor and matches the trans/t case
