A W250 is a 4x4 truck. It does not have ball joints. It has kingpins. Moog makes nothing for the Dana front axle used in our trucks.

Here is a link with the king pin repair parts for upper and lower. There are many places for these parts just shop around.

If your truck is a 2 wheel drive. It is called a D250. I'll let someone else walk you threw what is needed for ball joint replacement.

Philip, thanks. D250 hmm, like the trim on the fender. Yeah, I got it but I own two 1992 1st Gen's a D and a W. guess I hit the wrong key in typing my question. Just replaced them (king pins) on the W. Thanks for the lesson though. I'm getting to the age where I need someone to follow me around.

If you noticed I covered both models some. Moog makes the ball joints for the D's. You will need a socket for the upper ball joints to remove them.

Without digging the manual out I seem to remember the lowers need a ball joint press.

Now myself. If I had a Dodge with bad ball joints I always removed the upper and lower arms and replaced the suspension bushings. In most cases by the time the original ball joints wear out. The rest of the bushings are not to far behind. Same with the strut rod bushings.

I agree on the bushings. When I did my ball joints I replaced the A arm bushings too. They were shot! Unfortunately I didn't know the upper ball joints screwed out, and I pressed them out. :( I had to tack weld them to hold them in.

I rented a ball joint press from Oreillys and I couldnt get the lowers to press out (not sure if I didn't have something right or not) but I beat them out with a hammer and then pressed them back in. Moog will be the way to go. I went with Masterpro and one of the lowers had a weird taper to it. It took them a while to find the ones with the right taper. The wrong taper let the knuckle sit to far down and only had 1\4" contacting the knuckle. Also check into replacing the uppers a-arms with new that has bushings and ball joints installed might be cheaper, not sure.

Keep posting guys, I just signed up for $270 of front end parts and now I gotta put all this stuff together. I was hoping to buy complete control arm assemblies but Rock Auto didn't have them and all your mistakes help me know what not to do

Phillip, you mentioned a Manual, what manual and where the heck does one get a service manual for a First Gen. D and W truck?
Thanks,

Genos Garage has them new in paper or CD versions for about $100 or $120. I got mine used from EBay and saved about $20 over a new one. If you get the one for a '93 it is the same as '92 and also has the Getrag overhaul in it.
