93 Dually 2wd to 4wd swap

Postby kyled19 » Tue Sep 19, 2017 2:22 pm

Ok so as my sig says I have a 93 2wd dually. I found a guy selling a 90 4wd dually that said he would sell me just the parts I need to do the 4wd swap. My question is, does anyone have a detailed list of all the parts I need to make the swap? can I do the entire swap using a donor truck or are there certain parts that won't swap from a 4wd to a 2wd? If the whole swap can't be done using just a donor truck what parts can I use and what will I have to make or find somewhere else? He gave the option to buy just the parts I wanted or buy the entire truck minus motor and trans (I would still get the t case) for a little bit more. Which do you guys think is the best option.

P.S. my truck is auto and extended cab, the donor truck is auto and regular cab

Those axles would bed 3:07 gearing. An auto and 3:07' is fine if your just a DD. An auto and 3:07's towing is another issue. Now for the parts.

Front spring hangers, front springs rear mount, front springs, Engine cross member, trans cross member, rear spring 6" blocks, front springs, clutch pedals and m/c mount, exhaust system, drive shafts, T-case shifter.

If I missed anything I am sure someone will step in and let you know.

You would need a OD unit for a 518 for a 4x4 to mount the T-case. The 90 has a 727 in it. Different trans with no OD.

ok so it is actually a 91 does that make a difference? here's a link to the add doesn't give much info on the truck but I did notice that it is ppumped which is interesting. also is the downpipe different or just the exhaust after the downpipe?

That truck doesn't have an I/C. So it should be a 727 in it. But with a p-pump engine it might have had a OD trans swapped in.

Down pipe is the same on 2wd and $x$. The pipe after the down pipe is different. It has a couple of bends in it to clear the t-case.

That is a C&C truck. That dually axle is 4" narrower than your current axle.

You might be better off just buying the complete truck for your swap then sell off the unwanted parts. Remember that p-pump engine with a question mark on it will bring $1500 just because it is complete.

How do I tell if it is a od trans? and I intended on keeping my current rear axle so that's not a big deal. Also from the pics it looks like it has a factory intercooler. maybe its a 91.5. Image I don't have enough cash to buy the whole truck otherwise I would and take the ppump off and put it on my truck.

ok so I just found out it is a non overdrive trans. Is there anyway to make the non overdrive tcase work with an overdrive tranny? or should I not waste my time and just buy a different tcase

Edit: I think I miss understood originally. All I need is the tailshaft from a 518 the tcase is the same for a 727 and a 518 correct?

The t-case would work on a OD trans. Both year range of trucks used the same t-case.

Does anyone know if I am going to have to make any modifications to the trans tunnel? As well as does anyone have advice on getting the 2wd engine cross member out? if it possible to pull the whole front suspension out in one big piece?

If you have an auto, 2wd, you will need to biggie size the hump. 4X4 and/or standard trans is the bigger hump.

Thought the ext cab, no matter the drive or transmission was always had the large hump?

Its hit or miss with Xcab's. Some have the large hump with auto's. Some do not. I think it depends mostly if it was a 4x4 or not. I have had two 2wd Xcab's both were flat floors. The cab on my truck was from a 4x4. It has the hump in it.

Does anyone know the differences between 94 frame and a 93 frame? would it be possible to use a 94 or 95 donor truck so I can make the swap to a 47rh at the same time as the 4wd swap.
