would a first gen 4x4 trans crossmember work with a 4x4 47rh and tcase? I may end up doing custom suspension anyway just for better ride quality than leaf springs. Second gen donor trucks are much easier and cheaper to find in my area. Also will a second gen tcase work with a 4x4 a518?

I believe the 47RH can be made to work with a proper 1st Gen 4x4 tranny cross member...have to move it back an inch or so I think? As for the T-case....if your want it RH drop then you need to flip it and alter the oiling system. But I believe the 2nd Gen transfer case (271??) is a 29 spline.....A518 is a 23 spline.

Also there is issue with the input/output shafts to mating up properly. The A518 uses a separate coupler to mate the tranny to transfer case, where as the 2nd Gen T-case or 2nd Gen tranny output shaft has the coupler as part of the shaft itself....so they may not mate up?

This is just info I have gathered in my research and reading....so can not verify the complete accuracy of my statements. ;)

Big differences in frames. Anything is possible with enough time, money and fabrication.....;)

You will have a bunch of issues trying to mount a 1st Gen body on a 2nd Gen frame.....personally I don't think the hassle is worth it. IMO I know the 2nd Gen's ride smoother then the 1st gen's...but that does come with a price. The front ends require more frequent rebuilding and/or costly upgrades to make them live longer under the weight of the cummins motors.

No i would use the donor truck for the trans, tcase, and axle. I would keep the first gen frame, just swap to a 47rh and second gen axle and then build custom suspension. Swapping a first gen body on a second gen frame sounds like a lot of work for little gain. I would still have to get first gen 4x4 crossmembers though.
