Doing new brakes and hydroboost; any new wisdom?

Postby Begle1 » Thu Jul 27, 2023 11:49 am

Brakes on my truck recently took a turn for the worst, so I'm planning on replacing everything in between the slave cylinders and pedal. It's all pretty crusty stuff by this point and I even still have the old nonoperational RWAL valve in there.

I'm reading through all the old threads from years ago. Has anything changed recently, is there anything new available?

I don't have access to any junkyards so I'm in the market for a "kit" or a list of parts I can buy from a store. Has anybody used the Jegs hydroboost conversion kit or similar? I see pages of companies selling kits, nothing particular to First Gen Dodges though.

This is at least one option, and they do a fair bit of 1st gen specific stuff.

Awww man, that's a great find to see that there IS A first gen specific version, but why does it need to cost $1,600?

That seems STEEP. Do you have first-hand experience with it?

I was planning on following the recipe here:
https://www.cumminsforum.com/threads/hy ... n.1609938/

My NAPA cart currently has a $200 2nd gen power steering pump, and a $311 brake booster and $217 master cylinder off of a G2500...
And my AutoZone cart currently has a $107 power steering pump, $133 brake booster and $147 master cylinder.

And the $1600 kit doesn't even come with the pump!

I do agree on the price being steep. I have a bit of experience with some of their other stuff and it is solid quality.

My route as it stands is to strip the 24v 2nd gen I got as a parts truck for my hydro boost conversion.
