Bright headlights=relay's+H4 conversions

Postby kiszka6911 » Fri Jan 12, 2007 1:37 pm

I just wanted to let everyone know that I finished installing my painless wiring headlight relay harness summit racing p/n PRF-30815 and the Autopal DOT H4 conversion lens with 60/55 white bulbs from ebay. I must say its quite a difference from the GE halogen's I had. The guy on ebay will take $26.00 for the H4 conversion lens & bulbs.

The relay harness is true plug and play with weatherpack fuse holder.

Doing a basic visual comparison. Installing one bulb at a time and then comparing each on and off the relay harness. Baseline bulbs are 3 Month old GE halogens.
GE Halogens on relay's are brighter then GE's on head light switch.
H4 conversions brighter on headlight swtich then GE's on relay's.
H4 conversions brightest on relay's

The quality of the Autopal H4 conversion lens are about 90% of the hella, (my buddy had a set of hellas) DOT H4 conversions. The polish of the reflector is just not as good on the Autopals but they were half the cost so I can live with that.

I bet there is a huge improvement. With old skimpy wiring and an overloaded circuit this is on my list of to-do's, I have all the stuff except the conversion units.

Ebay Item number: 230079447311 for e-code's & item number: 330007065725 for the DOT.

I mad him an offer on the DOT's at $26 and he took it.

I just put a set of the E codes in my 91 Jeep Cherokee (same lights as a 1st gen uses) and they are great.

I got them with 55/100 bulbs. He will take a "best offer" of right around $22.95 for the pair.

I really like the E ones more than DOT, you can run higher wattage bulbs and still have a nice low non glaring lowbeam pattern. Maybe someday the US will revise its old antiquated headlight laws.

I made my own harness and used 55/100 bulbs. I can EASILY see out 1/4 mile in front of me. That is as far as I could test on the hilly roads I have been on so far in the dark. The lowbeams were also much nicer than a DOT pattern in the fog this morning. The E style lowbeam has a sharp cutoff and doesn't glare.

I give it a thumbs up so far! Will have to order another set for my 1st gen.

If you buy the harness like I did its truly plug and play with two power leads to the battery.

Ok is this link the same as the conversion kits, or will it work as one? Not trying to be cheap, but it IS a $5.95 per side deal, vs the $25 per side for the others. Brighter is better, and from the pics, it looks like the E style would be better than the DOT.
