Small lift options

Postby SChandler » Tue Jun 24, 2008 8:46 am

Last week I put new tires on my 92. They are 255/85R16 Toyo M-55's (approx. 33" x 10.50") on 16"x8" rims. They rub the plastic trim at the bottom of the front fenders at the front of the wheelwell. I know that I could get the Skyjacker 2.5" lift front springs or have the local spring shop build me some, but that is going to be $300+ to do. Plus, I would need to do add-a-leafs or new springs in the rear (I prefer a slightly nose down stance since I use it occasionally to haul stuff and tow) to maintain the current stance. I was looking at Off Road Design's website and they have these on there: http://www.offroaddesign.com/catalog/Zero%20Rates.htm. These look like the answer to my problems. Anybody tried them or have an opinion on them? Thanks.

Instead of spending the money, plus shipping, just get a 1" (or however thick) block, drill a hole in it, and put that in. Not much difference between that and the pricey part. Ooohhh, CNC machined! Big deal. JMHO. ;)

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

While they're technicaly not lift blocks, I still wouldn't want them in the front. They'd probably still be illegal in Va. as well. For those tires to rub, your stock springs must be sagging. An add-a -leaf on worn springs won't cause toooo stiff of a ride.

That's what my impression was, they feel a little too close to blocks to make me comfortable without hearing a first hand account of them in use in the front. I'm pretty sure the rear springs aren't sagging. The fronts might be a little bit, but I don't know for sure.

You can see how I did it in the projects. Depending on the materials used, you can do that for next to nothing but your time and the cost of some nuts and bolts.
