Finally managed to get new wheels and tires and got rid of the junk BFGs that were too big for the rims and would not stay balanced. It was looking like Rickson would never get the forged wheels back in stock, so I went with a set of 17x8 Alcoa Classics. These are much lighter than the Ricksons, and I got to thinking those mega-expensive Ricksons would be overkill for what I do with the truck anyway. This set (25lb. wheel with Nitto 285-75/17 10ply E rated Dura Grapplers) makes a 92.6lb wheel/tire combo - a little less than three pounds heavier then the BFGs on stock rims that came off. The BFGs were halfway gone, so I think they would actually probably be slightly heavier to start with. These are the same width (285) and two inches taller (34). With an M+S rated highway tread, they are way quieter with less rolling resistance and should give me another 1-2mpg, I hope. They are close to being the tallest tire that will fit under the 3" lift without rubbing under any circumstances. There's also 1.25" adapters under them, pushing them to fill out the wheel wells just about flush with the fender flares.

Wadda ya think? 8)

Do you drive on any gravel roads? I just pulled my bfgs off a few weeks ago and put my swampers back on because I was sick of hearing rocks hit my rockers and chipping the paint. Just curious if you had any comparison between them and the bfgs. They look good by the way.

Looks good! I almost have the same wheels but mine are 16X8 with 265-75-16 Michelin LTX Load Range E. I love them, the best ride I have ever had.

I got them through Discount Tire, the whole package wheels, tires, lugs, lug covers and centers mounted and balanced for $2,060 out the door. They tried to gouge me on the wheels, so I said that was a little steep and mentioned where the lowest price was available, so they undercut it by a few bucks.

The only good thing I can say about the BFGs is they were wearing pretty well. I put 20k on them and they were about half gone, so probably not bad in that dept. But they drove and handled horribly, mostly due I think to being 285s on 6 and a half inch wide rims. I didn't run them over 50lbs. and they were still wearing more in the middle. I don't get offroad or even on gravel hardly at all, so they were not a good choice for me anyway.

The new Nittos are much quieter on the road. And smoooooth.

I work at Discount Tire but I am not a salesman, I change tires all day long. It keeps the truck running.
