19.5's

Postby RumbleFish » Fri Jan 26, 2007 4:02 pm

So I've got a set of 19.5 dually wheels. What do I need to do before I can use them? Anybody know where to find a set of 225/70R19.5's reasonable?

You will need to open the lug holes to 5/8's. The GM P40's used 9/16's. Then check the center hole that the hub goes threw. It should be the same as ours. But it doesn't hurt to check. If it is tight have it opened.

I don't know where any 19.5's are. You might give Gill's Truck Salavage a call in Warsaw. When I was there earlyer this summer they had some trucks with 19.5's out in the yard.

I figured I would have to enlarge the lugs. Not a big deal. What do I use for lugnuts? These aren't coin-faced like stock wheels. Do I need the clamp rings and tapered seat nuts like the GM's use?

And I already thought about Gills. A buddy of mine I went to Purdue with lives in Warsaw. I remember you and Jeremy talking about a truck yard in Warsaw so I asked him about it. Turns out he buys derby cars from him and he is supposed to check it out for me. Thanks for the help.

Just use your stock nuts. If you look at the back side of the nut you will see that the nut doesn't seat on the coin section. It seats on the outer flats. The reinforcement plate if you have them I would use it. But it isn't that much of a issue. A lot of the P40's didn't come with plates.

If those 19.5's do not have the centering pin hole. You can eather put one in or grind the pin off the hub asy.

im dying to do 19.5's (or 22.5's) on mine. Will they just simply bolt on w/o fender trimming?

225/70R19.5's are approx. the same height as 235/85 16's. I plan on putting in the taller front springs since the front suspension needs attention anyway.

Cowboy_Customs you are limited to 19.5's with a stock based wheel setup. To use 22.5's you will need to go to one of those expensive adapter setups and use semi wheels.

Myself I will never use a set of adapters.

The GM P40 19.5 rims will work with just a little modification.

my 19.5's are working great without ANY modification. the lug holes are a little big, and the center hole is way too big. i just take a little extra time when putting the wheels on to make sure they're centered.

btw, i love em. one of the best mods i think i've done. i'm running 245/70's.

Has anyone found a good source for SRW (non-dually) rims in 19.5" other than Rickson or other custom made wheels? I'd love to put a set on my D250.

I have seen bread/ UPS/ FedUp trucks with SRW 19.5s. Have no idea what bolt pattern size they run, but I have seen them.

Is there any reason a person couldn't use two sets of the front dually wheels for the single wheel trucks?

If your talking about the using them on the rear axle. The axle housing is to short for a set of dually rims. The tires will hit the springs. With a stock offset dually rim you would need at least 3/4' of spacers to get the tires off the springs.

If found this out after I bought my truck. One of the PI's (previous idiots) had replaced the axle with a SWR axle and used 5/8's washers to clear the springs.

I figured there had to be a reason. Thanks.
