Crew Cab conversion Frame question

Postby NoFrills » Thu Sep 25, 2008 3:03 pm

I recently bought a 85 crew cab 2wd that is a real nice rot free ex navy truck. I Have a 92 cummins that I plan on taking every thing out of the problem that I found is that the crew cab frame is not a tall as the 92's. I forget the numbers off the top of my head but its about a inch shorter. I am probably just going to use the crew cabs instead of stretching the taller one. I see that there are some converted trucks on this site and was wondering what was done to them. thanks Ray

Most likely your 85 has the 6 inch tall frame and the 92 has the 8 inch tall frame. My 89 w250 has the small frame and my 93 w250 has the tall one. The original frame should do fine unless you really are gonna work it.

I am building the truck mostly for personal use but I do end up putting as 4000 lb machine in the bed and a 7500 trailer at the same time every now and then I had a club cab that i junked a few years ago now i wish i kept it around for the extra hunk of frame I would hate to use the shorter frame and get rid of the other stuff and run it to problems latter on

I have abused my 85 crew cab W350 for ages and the only frame issue I have had is the rear receiver hitch trying to tear out, and that's just poor hitch design.

I would use the 85 frame. It will be less hassle than stretching and welding and then having it certified. Shadrach
