d250 is a d350?

Postby 284 » Sun Oct 12, 2008 11:13 am

as from my sigline, I have a 2wd 250. Sticker on door even says so.

However, I had my brakes done and every 250 combo they tried didn't fit. Only 350 parts fit.

Just had my ball joints redone. 250 for 91 didn't fit. 250 for 92 was larger, but still didn't fit. Ball joints for the 350 fit. (there is a definite size difference).

Is this common amongst the diesels?
Anyone else ran into this?
If not, is it a common practice to swap in HD (350) parts into 250s?

Just curious and as often, a bit dumbfounded.

I remember replacing the the frt seals and bearings on my 82 D150 . I had to order the ones for a D250 to get the correct parts. Shadarch

The problem most likely stems from the parts guys using gas 250 parts rather than diesel 250 parts. The diesel parts are all the one ton stuff (regardless of if the truck is a 250 or 350) due to the weight of the motor. About the only difference between a 250 and 350 is the rear springs and to get dual rear tires from the factory, you have to have a 350, IIRC. When ordering front end parts for a 2wd, always tell them you have the 4000lb front axle . That should get you the right stuff. I hope you got the highest quality ball joints you could. Ball joint failure on these is a problem with cheap ball joints.
