front end leveling

Postby bluetick » Sun Oct 26, 2008 9:51 am

I have a 1993 extended cab that I want to level. What is the best way of doing this? Is there a kit to purchase? I noticed between the leaf springs and axle that there is already a 1.5" rubber block. Is this factory?

Thanks
Mike

the best springs that ive seen have been the skyjacker springs,i have a few friends runnin then and they like em.or you can call a spring company like eaton detroit springs(thats who make my rears and i love em :D ) and tell em what you got and what you want to do.good luck

Is the rubber block just on the driver side? If so, somebody already did a redneck leveling job on it.

No matter what you do or what springs you get, it will always eventually sit lower on the drivers side. It's just a matter of time due to the added weight of the fuel, steering, battery and driver. I added a leaf to the driver's side. It's a quarter inch higher now. Probably be level in a year. Time for new springs in another year or two after that.

No the block is on both sides and actually it is hard steel but looks like rubber. Is it not as simple as putting a larger block in each side and new u bolts?

I question the wisdom of blocks at either end. You can get new springs or something like this:

If you do actually have a block in the front....take them out. They're very unsafe and illeagle in most if not all states. If your rear is stock, then some skyjacker 2.5" springs would be fine. Or if you have some fab skills, then dropping tha spring hangers and using longer shackles will work too. I didn't see any mention, but we're assuming you have a 4wd truck?

How does it ride when you have the leafs re-arced? Is it rough?

Actually it rides pretty good. About as stiff as before.

I agree with Falcon on re-arching your front springs. I have read too many dissapointment threads concerning Skyjacker leveling springs. Skyjacker may give you a softer ride.........but do they retain the lift for many years without eventual sagging? It is just a matter of time before I yank my stock springs and re-arch them.

My Skyjackers are about four years old, no complaints. Springs just don't last forever, no matter who makes them.
