Where to get a BENDIX master cylinder?

Postby dpuckett » Fri Nov 21, 2008 2:53 pm

Does anyone know? NO ONE in this town carries Bendix, and one store, (NAPA) cant even get a new one. There are more brands out there that I havent heard of than those I have heard of. What else is a good brand besides Bendix? Dorman? Cardone? Master? I got a Raybestos one time, and it wasnt worth a hoot, either. I think I need to find some Japanese or German company and get it from them. Americans are just too damned lazy and cost oriented.

The reason for this is that my W350 had a bad master cylinder when I bought it. Now, the reman I put on in June is bypassing internally- emptying the reservoir for the rear and overfilling the fronts. Weird:confused: So, no more reman for me (I've said that before, though).

Daniel, drill a hole thru the web in the middle, or grind a notch in the top. Then the fluid can pass back to the other side. Not really the proper fix, but it will work 'til you can get a good one. ;)

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

has anyone ever tried to switch to a race car set up? On my car it has two master cylinders and you can adjust back and forth how much breaking pressure you want on the front or rear. No break booster to fail, just two quality master cylinders. I'm not sure if it would work or not, but I know it works really well on the car, I can adjust it with a knob while driving its great. (not that you would need to adjust it in a truck)

That sounds like it goes against the principal on which I base my life- the KISS principle.

Advance may not stock the Bendix brand but it is available for them to order. A-C Brake in Louisville probably has them in stock, but usually they stock Wagner which has been a good brand for me.

maybe not. this past summer advance dropped their bendix pads and switched to wagner. i called my buddy who works there and had him look up a master cylinder. its in the catalog, but none of the warehouses have it in stock. a warehouse closer to you may have it though.

a new mc was $111 though, reman was just shy of $30 iirc.
