steering a little sloppy

Postby colodriller » Tue Jan 06, 2009 11:37 am

my pickup likes to follow grooves in the road, hit a little bump wants to follow it. slight curves to the right from 55-65 mph, it has a slight jerk in the steering wheel (kinda like turning in 4x4 at low speed). To the left it handles great. drives shaft maybe a little loose, can I adjust it? It does'nt seem loose enough to cause this though. Thanks

I meant steering shaft is a little loose, not drive shaft shaft. Tie rod ends feel good. Just does'nt feel like theres enough play in the shaft to make it do what it's doing.

steering shaft, or maybe a steering stabilizer might help a little. kingpin bushing and spring , bad steer tires, make a little check list and start going through it.

i dont know if your truck is 4wd or 2wd but either way it is more than likely worn ball joints if it is a 4wd truck it could be your drag link as well. also look at your steering shaft to see how much is lost in the transfer from the shaft to the pitman arm.if you inspect your ball joints in your steering system for excessive movement and your shaft is pretty tight it might be time to dive into rebuilding the knuckles
