Ditchin' the AC compressor

Postby Raymo » Wed Mar 11, 2009 10:11 am

So after buying the p-pump motor I also came across a super clean 89 motor that I traded my welder for! So I'm going to be runnin my 1st gen motor with out the AC, and I was wondering if there was any way to get rid of it on the cheap. I have a dummie pully off my old 6.5, should I just fab up a bracket and use that?

You simply remove it and go buy yourself a non-AC belt.

Last year I bought a Dodge 6BT engine from a non-AC 1990 truck. The engine has the bracket for the AC and of course no compressor.

Would one have to remove the compressor to run the non-ac belt, or will it pass out of the way of the pulley..(its -20 here right now or else i'd probably go lift the hood ;) )I would love to bypass it for all but the month and a half I usually actually use it..
How many hp would I potentially gain running no fan and no ac? Probably enough to notice....

The fan is on a thermostatic clutch and the air conditioning is on an electromagnetic clutch, so if you're not using either the net horsepower draw is less than 1. You'd see more of a benefit due to the weight reduction.

I took mine out 'cuz I'm just hard kore like dat.
